Östra Ämtervik is located beautifully by lake Fryken ca 15 km south-east of Sunne. About 800 people live here.
In the church village, you'll find a country shop, a school, a football field and the community house Sjösala. The place is known for its many arrangements, a.o. the annual Lagerlöf Festival.
One of Östra Ämtervik's more important attractions is Mårbacka, the home of Selma Lagerlöf. The famous writer and Nobel Literature Prize Winner was born and grew up there. After some time in Stockholm and Falun, she returned to her beloved Mårbacka. The memorial manor and the Lagerlöf family grave are now popular tourist attractions.
