The idyllic church village Västra Ämtervik is located 15 km south-west of Sunne by route E45. Västra Ämtervik has a wonderful view over lake Fryken. About 1090 people live here.
In the church village, you'll find a school, a daycare centre, service flats for elderly, a football field, a sports arena, a folklore museum and a country shop. Fryksdalsbanan - the most scenic Swedish railway, makes a stop here.
There are living handicraft traditions so there's art and handicraft exhibitions in the folklore museum all summer. Sillegården is a popular tourist attraction with restaurant, handicraft shop, art galleries, arrangements and accomodation. At the site, there is a stop for the steam ship ss Freja af Fryken.
