Migration to America
From 1875 to 1985, the population decreased by half. The migration to America at the end of the 19th century was the main reason. The iron industry came to an end and living conditions were poor. Hard winters, bad harvests, plagues and unemployment forced the people to move to find their living. The forests were not considered as a source of income at the time.
