There are five churches in the municipality: Gräsmark, Lysvik, Östra Ämtervik, Västra Ämtervik and Sunne, all of them situated beautifully with a view over lakes.
All five church villages used to be munipalicities of their own, Västra Ämtervik up to 1862 and Östra Ämtervik to 1863. Gräsmark and Lysvik merged with Sunne in 1971, which made the present area of the municipality.
The Church of Gräsmark, a popular wedding church

The church was built in 1738 on an incredibly beautiful site near lake Lillsjön and its interior is as beautiful. The legend says there was a dispute about where to build this church; the people agreed to let a team of oxen decide - where the equipage stopped, the church was to be erected.
The Church of Sunne, the Cathedral of Fryksdalen
The magnificant church of Sunne is often said to be the Cathedral of Fryksdalen and is the biggest province church in Sweden. The church of Sunne has been ravaged by fire on several occations. The present church was rebuilt and ready in 1888. It's a magnificant building and a landmark for the whole area.
The Church of Lysvik, beautifully situated near lake Fryken
The church was built from 1753 on. Worth mentioning a. o. is the christening font from the 13th century and the altar-piece from the end of the 17th century. The paintings in the ceiling, sanctuary and the sanctuary windows were made by Tor Hörlin.
The Church of Östra Ämtervik, Selma Lagerlöf's church
The consecration took place in 1848 though the building of the church started as early as 1795. Remarkable is the Lagerlöf family grave as well as Uncle Eberhard's trunk which Selma Lagerlöf described in her writing.
The Church of Västra Ämtervik, paintings by Erling Ärlingsson
The church was rebuilt after a fire in 1820, only a few pieces were rescued from the original church built in 1673, among them thechristening font. The local famous artist Erling Ärlingsson who lived at Sillegården close by the church of Västra Ämtervik has painted the beautiful alter-piece.
