The Swedish election 2026
On September 13, 2026, there will be elections for the Swedish Parliament, regional and municipal councils. By voting, you help decide who will govern in your municipality, region and the Swedish Parliament.
How to vote
All eligible voters will recive their voting card before August 26, 2026. The voting card confirms that a person is registered to vote and shows which polling station you can vote at.
If you have a digital mailbox, like Kivra or Min Myndighetspost, your voting card will be sent there. Otherwise, you will receive your voting card by regular mail.
You can choose to vote on the election day, on September 13, at your polling station, or in advance at Sunne Library. If you are unable to visit a polling station due to illness, age, or disability, you can vote with a mobile voting team.
Election to the Riksdag
- you must be 18 years old no later than on election day,
- you are a Swedish citizen, and
- you are now, or have been, registered in the population register.
Election to the municipal and region assemblies
- you must be 18 years old no later than on election day,
- you are recorded in the population register as a constituent of the municipality and region and
- you are a Swedish citizen, a citizen of another EU Member State, Iceland or Norway, or
- you are a citizen of another country or stateless but have been recorded in the Swedish Population Register for at least three consecutive years before election day.

Vote before the election day at Sunne Library
You can vote in advance starting from August 26 and up until the election day on September 13th. You can vote at any polling station for early voting.
In Sunne the polling station for early voting is located at Galleri Björken, Sunne Library.

To cast your advance vote, you will need to bring your voting card and a valid form of identification.

Vote on the election day September 13
You can vote at your polling station at the election day, September 13. The polling stations are open 08.00–20.00.

If you are unable to visit a polling station due to illness, age, or disability, Sunne municipality can arrange for a mobile voting team to visit you, or you can vote by proxy.
Mobile voting team
A mobile voting team means that a voting officer will come to your home, or another location where you are, and collect your vote. The Election Committee in Sunne municipality have designated people who are there to help you.
If you need a mobile voting team, please contact the Election Office through the municipality's switchboard at 0565-160 00.
Voting by courier
Voting by courier means that someone else delicers your vote to the polling station. You can vote by courier if you are unable to get to your polling station, for example due to illness or if you are detained in a prison or insitution.
The courier can be, for example, a close relative, caregiver, or an employee of a prison. The courier must be at least 18 years old.

Follow the election results
The Swedish Election Authority will publish the first preliminary results from the cote count in the parliamentary election on their website on the evening of September 13.

All vote counting is public
Both the cote counting at the polling station and the final vote counting at the Country Administrative Board are public. This means that the public has the right to be present and see what is happening, in order to check that everything is done correctly.
